Press Release  In a quiet suburb of Bracknell, in a nondiscript house you wouldn’t look twice at, an array of unwanted exotic creatures are given a second chance of finding a new and loving home.   Berkshire Reptile Rescue takes in unwanted reptiles and other exotic animals from people who can no longer care for them.  Whether they have out grown their living space, will not be moving when their owners do, have developed health problems or been found wandering the streets, Berkshire Reptile Rescue are on hand to do all they can to help. Coming from an aquatic background the owner Graham Martin specialises in aquatic animals like turtles, frogs and fish aswell as having a vast knowledge of the husbandry of lizards, snakes and invertabrates.  Mr Martin confirms “ We have taken in a broad spectrum of creatures in our 12 years of service, from large snakes to tiny frogs and every thing inbetween.”  Some orphans come to Berkshire Reptile Rescue in perfect health from caring owners who just havn’t the  room any more, however others come in with ailments of varying severity. Turtles, which compose a large percentage of rehomed animals tend to come in with soft shells where they haven’t been given the correct lighting or bad eyes where there water has been left foul for long periods exposing them to harmful bacteria.  Lizards come in with tails missing from fighting or various other forms of owner mishap and Snakes with split lips or bruised jaws from striking at tormenting fingers outside their tank.  “ We had one turtle in a few years ago she had a shell about 15” long so quite a big girl. She had severe eye problems with both her eyes being severely pus encrusted and she wasn’t able to see at all and wouldn’t eat. After the majority of encrustation was removed manually, treating her to a medicated bath once a day and hand feeding her she eventually started to show improvement, her eyes cleared up and we found her a loving home with an owner who knew how to properly take care of her.” Berkshire Reptile Rescue is a non-profit organisation, they rely solely on support from reptile and animal lovers to cover their expenses which include heating, lighting and vet bills.  Mr Martin explains“ For a reptile in captivity it is vital to reproduce their natural enviroment in order for them to have a happy and comfortable life”The myth of reptiles being slimy is untrue, the only slimy reptile is a badly kept one. As well as providing advice Berkshire Reptile Rescue provides a more practical form of help in the form of designing and setting up enclosures and doing maintenance. Graham is also a pond maintenance expert (including turtle ponds) and can give advice and provide assistance with pond and fish problems. I’ll finish this with a plea if you’re looking for something exotic for a pet than by all means think about a reptile but please research what is needed, talk to experienced keepers like Graham and never impulse buy. -------------------------------------------------- End ----------------------------------------------- Berkshire reptile rescues details are as follows.Email – This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it        Phone/answer machine 01344 646027Mobile 07930247329Website http://www.freewebs.com/berkshirereptilerescue/Address given upon request.
