NEW TOURIST FIGURES FOR WESTERN AUSTRALIA SHOW LARGE INCREASES.

International visitors to Western Australia spent $1.5 billion in 06/07 (up by19%) while the number of visitors to the State also increased to 644,000 (up 4 %) with the number of nights stayed increasing by 11% to a total of 17.2 million nights.
The results were released in the new Tourism Research Australia report, International Visitors in Australia June Quarter 2007. The main visitor arrivals results for Western Australia for 2006/07 include:
1. Korea increased 45% (+3,300) to 10,700 visitors.
2. Singapore increased 5% (+3,100) to 61,900 visitors.
3. USA increased 7% (+2,750) to 39,700 visitors.
4. Hong Kong increased 21% (+2,300) to 13,000 visitors.
5. Malaysia increased 5% (+1,900) to 37,200 visitors.
6. India increased 23% (+1,100) to 5,700 visitors
MP Fran Bailey said 'Western Australia draws thousands of tourists each year, looking for adventure and relaxing holidays. The cosmopolitan city experiences of Perth, the fabulous wineries at Margaret River, and unique experiences offered around the State’s north-west, tells you that tourists simply love Western Australia.
The economic value of international tourism to the whole of Australia increased by $2.1 billion during the first financial year of the ‘So Where the Bloody Hell Are You?’ advertising campaign reaching $22.6 billion in 2006/07.
Fran Bailey added “The extra $2.1 billion means more jobs for Australians and more opportunities for small business. This helps keep the Australian economy strong.'
