Checkatrade (http://www.checkatrade.com)  in conjunction with Home Assistance UK Ltd announce the launch of Checkatrade Fast Fix Cover, an insurance policy designed to provide homeowners with a tradesperson on their doorstep, wherever possible, within three hours of an emergency occurring, regardless of the day or time.

The policy covers most household emergencies, including burst pipes, blocked drains and toilets, broken windows, security problems such as lost keys, heating system and power supply failures as well as leaking roofs. This removes the need for separate policies for different utilities.  For less than the cost of a cup of coffee per week, householders will be covered for parts and labour up to three times a year to a value of £1500 in any one year. 

The policy is the brainchild of Kevin Byrne, CEO and Founder of Checkatrade.com. Kevin recognised a need for this kind of policy after hearing of people who had experienced difficulty getting assistance in an emergency outside normal trading hours, even though they had household insurance. Kevin said “Most household insurance policies do not have provision for a trader calling at the time of the emergency occurring.  Too many times people have to bear with no heating, for instance, for days on end in cold spells because they, or their insurance company, cannot source a trader willing to carry out emergency repairs late at night or on a  public holiday. And if they can, they are charged an extremely large sum of money in order to do so. This policy takes the worry out of such situations.”

He has joined forces with Home Assistance UK Ltd, a division of Centrica, to provide this long overdue service. Calls to the emergency line will be handled by an operator 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and will not go to an automated service. As Kevin said “When you having water pouring from your ceilings at three in the morning, you do not want to be put through to an answering machine. You want to be reassured that your emergency will be dealt with quickly and efficiently.”
