Wentworth Brewery scored a hat-trick at this year’s highly competitive Oakwood Beer festival
Wentworth Brewery scored a hat-trick at this year’s highly competitive Oakwood Beer festival Multi award-winning micro-brewery Wentworth Brewery scored a hat-trick at this year’s highly competitive Oakwood Beer festival -marking the latest achievement in Wentworth’s impressive parade of awards. Wentworth’s distinguished Bumble Beer took Gold prize in the Speciality Beer category in what was a triumphant event for the South Yorkshire brewery. The slightly sweet, distinctive golden beer which takes on a subtly different taste at four separate times during the honey season clearly got the judges buzzing with joy. Wentworth Oatmeal Stout, which became famed at the festival two years ago when it was named the overall Show Winner, sustained it’s popularity with the festival’s specialist blind tasting panel and scooped Silver in the Stout and Porters category. The outstanding Oatmeal Stout has won many awards across the country and it must be tasted to be fully understood. At 4.8% the dark, smooth and satisfyingly malty flavour is achieved partly from the roasted barley and Golding hops. The Bronze medal accolade was awarded to Wentworth’s Rampant Gryphon in the strong ales category - which was contested by dozens of other micro-breweries from all over the UK. Wentworth Brewery’s managing director, Steve Beech, said: “Bumble beer is one our most renowned ales, epitomising what a real ale is all about and It’s hugely rewarding to see that being recognised at such a highly competitive event. We enjoy entering our beers into the Oakwood festival as it is a great event and it keeps us on our toes to ensure that we keep brewing the finest selection of ales possible.” February 2008 marked the sixteenth year for Rotherham’s Oakwood beer festival which is the fourth biggest real ale competition in the UK. Wentworth Brewery, which regularly produces 8 beers plus a guest beer each month, now supplies approximately 400 outlets across the country including the supermarket chains Booths, ASDA and Netto.
