GRIPPING SHOWDOWN AT JACOB K. JAVITS CENTER!31st ANNUAL NYC BIG APPLE GRAPPLE INTERNATIONAL PRO ARM WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE HELD ON SUNDAY, JUNE 22, 2008 New York, NY. April 26, 2008 -- The New York Arm Wrestling Association announced today that the Jacob K. Javits Center (The Bar Show) will host the 31st Annual New York City Big Apple Grapple Pro International Arm Wrestling Championships on Sunday, June 22, 2008 beginning at 1 p.m. The event will feature the world’s best pro arm wrestlers, both male and female, as they compete for a chance to be crowned New York City’s “King and Queen of Arms.” General admission tickets would be discounted to $30 at the door if “Big Apple Grapple” is mentioned, otherwise; $40 will be charged. Contestant entry fee is $30 and includes a free sponsor t-shirt. Everyone must 21 years of age or over to watch or compete.  Over $5,000 Cash and prizes will be awarded and custom Olympic-size medallions and awards will be presented for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each class. The event also offers select amateur weight classes and team competition where teams will compete in categories divided by borough, state, and country. The men’s division will be divided into five weight classes as well as having two left-handed weight classes while the women’s division will be divided into two weight classes.

Wesler President of RDP Group “We are proud to welcome some of the world’s strongest athletes to the Javits Center to showcase their talents in the sport of arm wrestling.” Wesler, continued, “Spectators will have the opportunity to witness incredible feats of strength while touring one of the city’s largest trade shows in America. We are truly pleased that the Bar Show can be a part of this unique annual event.” -- The Bar Show is a trade show that represents Bars, Nightclubs and Restaurants and introduces the latest trends in cocktails and includes bottle flipping, shaker spinning competitions and drink making mixology from top national and international contestants. It is expected that over 100 athletes will participate in the NYC Big Apple Grapple, coming from countries such as Turkey, Brazil, Russia, Germany, and the Republic of Georgia. “This event draws the best pro talent in the world,” said Gene Camp, Founder and President of the New York Arm Wrestling Association. Among those expected to take part in the event is Cynthia Yerby from Wolf, Oklahoma, a ten-time world champion who has won more than 30 professional arm wrestling titles in her career. Yerby has won New York City's “Queen of Arms” title seven years in a row (2000-2006), but her streak was broken last year because she didn’t compete due to medical reasons. To challenge Yerby will be last year’s “Queen of Arms” title holder Mirline Berrouet, who is also the current Empire State Champion and U.S. National Champion. -- Sean ‘The Rockaway Flash’ Ringgold will be returning to defend his 2007 New York City’s King of Arms title.
