If Leadership is centered on vision, no surprise that the Self led speakers at MTHR Global exclusive overnight event featuring one of the most important agendas across corporate board Learning Leadership, shared the above visions. The Theme being "Nurturing Geniuses: Learning Leadership from Diverse Disciplines", the Program commenced on Friday 8th December at 8.30 pm and continued on Saturday 9th December from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm. The Venue was the most picturesque Sinhgad Technical Education Society (STES) campus at Lonavala, lending its pristine surroundings to the fellowship and bonding of over a 100 MTHR Global Participants.

As earlier, with MTHR Global Meets, the journey was as enjoyable as the Program itself, so Mumbai participants enjoyed every minute of the trip by bus, organized by our gracious hosts STES. There were others coming in from Pune as well as those who came on their own, braving the acclivity of the Sahyadri, yet enjoying every minute of the drive. If this was not enough, another twenty-five enthusiastic Fraternity members also joined the learned community on Saturday. Friday evening saw the accomplished and energetic Rajeev Luv (already known to hardcore MTHRers) getting the adrenalin of the group soaring. After a brief introduction to the much-laboured concept of Leadership, he alluded to Maxwells seminal work and crystallized it to the main quality viz. that of Influence. However, Rajeev did not let the jamboree settle in, he rather had participants quickly group into four Teams and experience Influence and more through an energizing game “Tower Building”. This Tower however, was a little out of the box made of participants' footwear. The teams were quickly into the act of strategizing, planning (with timelines), executing and innovating, each of the 15 plus team members (many of them rank strangers to each other) learning the lessons of Team effectiveness and Leadership through the exercise. Post building their tallest towers in the shortest time, Rajeev then very adroitly had the tenets of Leadership through Self articulated through Team reps. Though the lessons were not new to anyone, the self-experienced insights were and so also was the bonding with others.

The Energy and buoyancy on the Evening session kept people charged well after dinner into the wee hours of the night. Come morning and the Campus came to life again with the chattering of members, high spirits of the co-coordinators and the Hospitality of the STES Catering college staff and students. Tea followed by breakfast was quickly gulped down so to get rolling with the ebullient speakers of the Convention.

Poonam Huddar, Executive Trustee FORCE, led the Leaders with her account on ¡§Leadership in Social Responsibility. This session was an inspiring tale that inspired the gathering with her Mantra on ¡§changing attitudes of lower strata through relationships. Poonam is your seemingly regular middle class housewife and mother who was fiercely driven by her Work for Mumbai vision. Completing her Masters in Science, well after motherhood happened; she realized her vision by ameliorating the community of garbage recyclers. Her zeal came through, with every word and expression. Working closely with slum dwellers, she even contracted TB early in her life but exhibited Leadership through her resilience in intractable circumstances. While expertly addressing the queries of MTHR Global members, she appealed to them to at least make a difference to one person in the lower strata. Other lessons of Leadership were:
-           Find your own calling and respond to it
-            Consistency in effort and purpose

The next session had Vinod Tawde, MLA regaling the audiences with his Learning Leadership from Politics¡¨ chronicle.  Armed with a wonderful sense of humour, powerful oratory skills and ability to even laugh at oneself; this was a truly objective session from a person in the rather invidious shoes of a politician. He brought out with great panache, the challenges and opportunities in State and national politics. Interspersed with a myriad tales, he shared his transformation from an Engineer to a Student leader to a Political leader with the intrinsic drive to make a difference to society. Many were the lessons in leadership brought to the fore
-           Political Leadership is about satisfying all classes of people, the hoi polloi: poor and rich; infant to old as opposed to market leadership where customer segments are well defined.
-           In Politics, there is the huge Need v/s Demand dilemma. Public demand is often short term while Need is often a long-term requirement.
-           The challenge of effective social change is so huge in politics of direct benefit, that one can often lose sight of the vision
-           Political leadership consists of grooming young leaders at the ward level, then city level, district level, state level, regional and national, most of it hands on - with a keen focus on desired competencies
-           One has to often deal with ironies: car loan is at around 6% interest while the more necessary Tractor loan is at 14%. Again, Home loan is at 9% while the vital loan for land is dearer at 13%

Nitin Ahir was insightful in his Learning Leadership with Happy Thoughts exposition. He unearthed an approach to Leadership, which was completely different from any other described so far. This Corporate Trainer of the rapidly growing Tej Gyan Foundation threw light on the subject, beginning with a wishing of Happy Thoughts to the assemblage. It was no surprise, when he elaborated that Self Leadership begins with Happy Thoughts.  Nitin himself is a convert from the field of Hospitality Management to Thought Management. Through a series of examples, Nitin illustrated the TGF 3L flight path to Leadership: Lakshya (Vision), Liberation through Self-belief and Love, which is inspiring. Nitin skillfully drew our attention to some of elements of their Leadership Framework
-           The First Step to Leadership is to enjoy the Process, enjoy each moment even when one lands up in unfavorable circumstances
-           If you cannot enjoy it, avoid it; if you cannot avoid it, enjoy it!
-           The Second Step is to be in a state of complete Integrity
-            Integrity itself is an alignment of Self, Heart, Head, Tongue and hands in a human
-           In other words, Leadership is about harmony between being, feeling, thinking, saying and doing
-           Also important along the way, is the process of Glass breaking thawing of frozen relationships: using Sorry, Thank you, I love you and conveying appreciation with sincerity and consistency.
The session very meaningfully concluded with hand ribbons signifying appreciation and affection¡¨ being distributed and even used by almost every participant.

The Endnote Session was a surprise package that was the beginning of a transformation for many. Participants were treated to a most exciting and powerful session from a UK based trainer of International repute. Arfeen Khan, who is himself a story of amazing personal transformation after being trained under the acclaimed Anthony Robbins, got the august audience on their feet within moments. Arfeen gradually encouraged them to unleash their own personal power. Through a variety of illustrations and examples, he led the way for a change in our external lives by altering our internal lives 100%. Innumerable lessons were learnt in below an hour, some of which were: Seek to be a leader in every sphere: be outstanding wherever you go

Aim for a focus on resourcefulness rather than merely looking for Resources Perform consistently to the best of your potential. We all have within us, six fuel tanks that need to be at their optimum level: Certainty/ Security; Challenge/ Uncertainty; Significance/ Recognition; Love/ Connection; Growth and Sense of Contribution. While the first four are needs of the mind the latter two are needs of the soul.

If more than three of the above tanks are less than half full, one is completely devoid of charge. To reach ones peak condition, one has to change ones current state through the use of the above six needs Become paragons of excellence by becoming outstanding in all six.

Arfeen made a fantastic interpretation and application of the days earlier learning in his own inimitable style an amazing flair to Influence.

It was propitious to have an equally valued Vote of Thanks given by MTHR regular participant, Milind Rane. Lunch followed, which became rather perfunctory as participants networked, exchanged cards, excitement and banter, so endemic to all MTHR Global events now. While the Program drew to a close, the Hospitality of STES Lonavala campus, the arrangements by STES SIMCA students and staff, the introductions to speakers given by faculty member Mrs. Biswas, the mingling and bonding of MTHR Global family members and Leadership Lessons from Diverse disciplines made us express. Thank goodness, it was Friday.
