Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, Mr. Brendan Smith T.D., will launch a travelling exhibition celebrating childhood in Ireland over the 20th Century, at the Cavan County Museum, Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan, from 7-8pm on Thursday May 1st 2008.
Commissioned by the Local Authority Museums Network, ‘Seen But Not Heard - A Century of Childhood in Ireland' the exhibition celebrates some of the many lifestyle changes as experienced by successive generations of children growing up in Ireland. Themes covered include education, health, work, play and memories. There will be workshops and activities built around the exhibition so lots of children will be ‘Seen and Heard’. The exhibition has been organised by the 13 Local Authority Museums based in Cavan, Carlow, South Tipperary, Cork, Louth, Clare, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Limerick, Mayo, Monaghan, and Waterford. Known collectively as the Local Authority Museums’ Network (LAMN) this is the group’s first national exhibition. The exhibition will travel to each County Museum over the course of the next three years beginning with Cavan. More information about the exhibition and the various Local Authority Museums involved may be had by accessing www.lamn.ie. |
