County Clare, 3rd March 2008 - Clare County Council today expressed disappointment at the decision of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to prosecute it for alleged non-compliance with the terms of its waste licence for the operation of the Central Waste Management Facility at Ballyduffbeg, near Inagh. The council confirmed receipt of the summons in respect of a case, scheduled to be heard at Ennistymon District Court on Wednesday, April 2nd 2008. A spokesperson for Clare County Council today stated, “Clare County Council is disappointed with the EPA’s decision considering the extensive works which it has undertaken, in consultation with the EPA, to deal with any odour related issues at the facility. Very significant improvement works were being undertaken at the site during the period covered by the summons.” Clare County Council confirmed its intention to present a full defence of the matters raised in the summons. -ENDS- Note to Editor: Mark Dunphy |
