Demanding change, several organizations and top experts are asking the presidential candidates to sign a pledge for a sustainable transportation system, while introducing a viable economic stimulus package. In the US, air travel is one of the most significant contributors to environmental and public health problems. As many know, it is unsustainable, based on artificially cheap fuel prices and massive public subsidies. PRESS RELEASE Contact: Jack Saporito, +1 847-506-0670 Chicago—Calling the present situation "unacceptable" and demanding change, several organizations and top experts are asking all the presidential candidates to sign a pledge regarding sustainable transportation and economic stimulus. This pledge has also been posted on-line for public support at: www.thepetitionsite.com/petition/852329349 Air travel is one of the most significant contributors to environmental and public health problems. As many know, it is unsustainable, based on artificially cheap fuel prices and massive public subsidies.
In particular, air travel is the only proven source of human caused climate change, a fact that is based on actual analysis from removal of the source.
The removal of aircraft from our atmosphere created an immediate and measurable impact on temperature in the three to four days following 9/11; atmospheric temperatures generally reverted back to 1950’s, pre-jet age levels.
In conjunction with a sustainable long-term transportation plan, the pledge calls on presidential appointees to give full and complete consideration of the public health and environmental impacts of aviation, which include climate, noise, toxic water and air pollution, as well as other significant public health and quality of life problems caused by airports and related operations.
The vetted solution and economic stimulus plan, backed by independent government reports, agencies and professional groups, was included with the pledge from the expert panel. The economic stimulus plan put forward is based on sustainable, long-term transportation solutions backed by both short and long-term initiatives.
Implementation of the plan during the decades it will take to develop and implement overdue safety, security and environmental technology upgrades for the air transportation industry will allow for the creation of millions of new jobs and businesses at approximately one-third the current estimated cost of proposed highway and airport expansions. In addition, congestion will be significantly reduced, a fact that is not guaranteed under the current ad hoc solution set.
The pledge places paramount importance on the health and well-being of the US economy by calling for the future President to seek and implement sustainable transportation solutions.
