reed.co.uk leads the pack for discrimination awareness
Written by Ian Bryce

reed.co.uk took positive steps this week to raise awareness amongst its clients about the issues and details of discrimination. In advance of the forthcoming age discrimination legislation, recruiters using Freecruitment, reed.co.uk’s free online recruitment service, were sent a “Diversity Update” containing a link to an online Discrimination Quiz.

The Discrimination Quiz, which allows recruiters to test their knowledge of potentially discriminatory terms, has received overwhelmingly positive feedback.

Michael Wright, MD of Idealpeople, received the quiz and commented “Although we are already prepared  for this sea-change in diversity legislation, I think that this kind of  education and prompting is a great thing…none of the other sites we use (and pay  to use) have attempted to educate or advise us, their customers, on these  topics.

However, some recruiters questioned the necessity for further legislation, having described current discrimination legislation as a “minefield”.

Martin Warnes, Head of Operations at reed.co.uk, comments “The introduction of Age Discrimination Legislation in October will ensure a fairer recruitment process and a more diverse workforce. It will also provide greater challenges to recruiters. We are very pleased with the level of uptake and subsequent positive feedback we have received about our Diversity Update. We recognise the value in offering our users a resource to help them negotiate current and future legislation. We see this as a natural extension to our service.”

The Discrimination Quiz is available at www.reed.co.uk/freecruitment
