AUSTRALIA'S GENERAL SKILLED MIGRATION (GSM) RULES HAVE UNDERGONE CHANGES THAT IS GOOD NEWS FOR SKILLED MIGRANTS FROM BRITAIN.

An increase to the English language threshold for GSM visa applicants and the rewarding of GSM visa applicants who have very good English language proficiency are included in these changes.

A greater emphasis on the work experience of skilled migrants has been brought about by changes to the points test. Requirements will be tighter on the links between studies, work experience and the occupation that has been nominated..

Skilled migrants applying under the Migration Occupation in Demand List (MODL) will now face a new requirement.

Applicants must have at least 12 months experience in their nominated occupation or one that is closely related to receive any points under MODL.

The current fifteen GSM visa subclasses has been simplified by being reduced to nine with helping applicants identify the visa class more suited to their requirements the aim.

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) announced that these changes will come into effect on September 1st 2007 but the changes will not affect those people who applied for a skilled migrant visa on or before August 31st 2007.
