A Mother’s Nature

There is no one right way to be a good mother...the best mother is you!

11th March 2008

The Women’s Retreat are launching a new retreat at Champneys designed especially for mothers, ‘A Mother’s Nature’.

Have you ever wondered about how different your child is from you? How two siblings  are like chalk and cheese? Have you ever compared yourself to another mum and wondered if you were doing it all wrong?  Do some of your responsibilities as a mother energise you whilst others exhaust you?  Would you like an antidote to the daily challenges that comes from being all things to all people?

A Mother’s Nature will help you recharge your batteries, enhance relationships with your family and enjoy being a mum!  And get pampered too!

A Mother’s Nature is a unique development programme aimed at helping you gain a better understanding of your personality type and your natural style of mothering. Using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), a widely used psychometric instrument based on the work of Carl Jung, we will help you better understand your mothering style, your child’s personality and how she/he perceives and interacts with the world.  You will gain insights and strategies to help you capitalize on the strengths of your unique personality and better meet your family’s needs, as well as your own.

The Women’s Retreat offers learning Retreats for women, in select spa venues around the country, which provide opportunities for personal and professional development, combined with relaxation, pampering and reflection time.   Retreats are designed to help women feel more positive and confident about their futures, in terms of their relationships and careers, but also to de-stress and help them feel good about themselves.  The distinct difference from other learning workshops and retreats is that the Woman’s Retreat offers the best of both worlds, combining personal development with unashamedly indulgent pampering sessions.

Dispelling the myth of the ‘perfect’ mother

“As mothers, we are inundated with advice from well-meaning ‘experts’, parenting books, the media - each one instructing us the ‘right’ way to bring up our children,” said Dawn Charles, managing director of The Women’s Retreat and relationships expert.  “Sometimes it seems like everyone has unrealistic expectations about what makes a ‘good mother’ and even when we try our hardest to get it right, no mother gets it right all the time....and in the meantime, we often compare ourselves with other mothers who seem to be perfect.

There is no perfect mother!   The good news is, it’s okay. Good mothers come in many styles and there is no one ‘right’ way to be a parent.  Your friend will have a mothering style that works for her and you have one that works for you – which is just as valuable.  Each one of us has different strengths, interests and values that make us fantastic mums.

Your children do not require you to be perfect, what they need is a mother who loves them and herself and knows how to make the most of her strengths and special qualities.   This knowledge improves our self-esteem, which has a positive impact on our children. A positive mum raises confident and happy children!

Once you understand, develop and trust your unique style as a mother, you can stop trying to live up to other’s expectations and be free from the frustrations of trying to be the ideal ‘perfect’ mum so that you can become the ideal mum that is right for you. The goal is for you to create an environment in which you and your family follow your true natures and your children become who they are meant to be.”

This retreat is designed for imperfect mothers everywhere and can be arranged for private groups anywhere in the UK.
