http://humanopinion.org is an online initiative aimed at recording human opinion. The Internet does not have a centralised data set on opinion and humanopinion.org see this as crucial to our future. The Internet currently has over one billion people online making it the ultimate polling platform, however no organisation is consolidating opinion in a centralised data set that will be of great value to social science and technologu in the future. To encourage the young people of society to participate as they are going to be most effected by technological and socialogical changes in the future, humanopinion.org is offering a £10000 Education Award.

The world gets a voice – humanopinion.org goes live with £10000 International Education Award
1 billion opinions, 1 place – impossible to ignore….
Over 1 billion people are now online, when they start using the Internet to voice their opinions in a consolidated way in one place…. It will be impossible to ignore
BRISTOL, UK — November, 2006 — http://humanopinion.org, a new online initiative has launched to record human opinion – free, fair and accessible to all.
Sherry Turkle - Director, MIT Initiative on Technology and Self Program in Science, Technology, and Society, stated in a recent article in the New Scientist that, “2006 finds the world enmeshed in multiple wars and genocidal campaigns. It finds the world incapable of calling a halt to environmental destruction. Yet, with all of this, people seem above all to be fascinated by novel technologies. On college campuses there is less interest in asking questions about the state of the world than in refining one's prescence on Facebook or Myspace. Technology pundits may talk in glowing terms about new forms of social life, but the jury is out on whether virtual self-expression will translate into collective action."
Technology is used to record almost everything today. However, humanity have as of yet to make use the Internet to record human opinion in a concrete and consolidated manner. At humanopinion.org we believe that it is imperative to begin this process and record opinion in an open and free manner, so that the human record is available to all people and future generations. We are aiming to convert virtual self-expression into a collective voice through the use of innovative web technologies.
Any humanopinion member can raise a Request for Opinions and get opinions on it and also vote on other members questions. Due to the fact we are collecting concrete data, this has more long term value than pure discuss, however the ability to discuss issues in greater depth is there. There is a lot of Web 2.0 features and a lot more to come. You can raise a question and send it to a friend/s, there are RSS feeds straight to your desktop on any category/country you wish to follow. All opinions that are posted, update in front of you in real-time using some clever technology.
The platform uses algorithms to mimic natural selection and display the issues that are getting the most interest and ones that are topical at the time.
humanopinion members will interact with each other in a variety of ways: weighing in on featured issues, commenting on and participating in in-depth discussions and expanding their personal and professional circles through future social networking features. Participants can create profiles, publish to the site. Members are also able to indicate whether they agree or disagree with comments, and can see how their options stack up to those of other members.
Front and foremost on humanopinion.org is the community and to ensure that humanopinion.org is a cross section of all society, we have created an Education Award to help develop a student somewhere in the world. We believe young people of the world have a lot to contribute and we would like people from all over the world to join. Therefore much of our marketing is focused at that community not just promotional material. We are hoping to get a good ROI on our marketing budget by offering The humanopinion.org £10000 Education Award to the student who raises and presents the best question (date to be confirmed).
humanopinion.org features the following:
· Featured RFOs. Requests for Opinions that are interesting and can headline the site and a category or country landing page.
· Most Active. Users can see the most active issues over all time, granulated by country and category. This allows users to participant in relevant issues that are of interest to them on an international and national level.
· On the Rise. Using algorithms to determine what members are participating in, the platform mimics natural selection and displays the Requests for Opinions which are of most value to the community on a worldwide or granulated level.
· In Depth discussion. Members can discuss Requests for Opinions in depth and in realtime. Comments can be rated so that members can determine the value of a comment to the community.
· Surprise Me. This feature allows members to just see a random Request for Opinions that they have not voted on. It is really fun.
· All the Web 2 stuff. The site give the members and users the ability to post interesting topics to Digg, pull down RSS feeds (on an overall or granulated basis), send to friends via email and link into their own Requests for Opinions. And has more still to come…
