With the credit crunch bringing spiralling living costs, from fuel and food to interest rates, families are seeing their budgets stretched to the limit and are grateful for any sign of discount or opportunity to receive preferential prices. PTA Pages ( http://www.ptapages.co.uk ), a new resource for parents, grandparents and teachers, is designed to minimise the essential costs of living by offering discounts in the community and on the high street for everything from plumbing to uniforms and piano lessons to electrical goods, while at the same time helping local PTAs. PTA Pages provides members with a database of discounted products and services which are available through other members, coupled with specially negotiated deals with high street retailers, including an unlimited usage of a 7% discount in dozens of high street stores. Members will also be able to advertise their second hand items across their local LEA free of charge using PTA Pages classifieds service. Registration with PTA Pages costs £3.50 per annum and provides members with full access to the search facility, allowing them to search through the business categories and find deals with up to 30% off in their school, town or LEA area. The discount is easy to use; once a deal has been selected the member can print a voucher from PTA Pages which contains their name, membership number and details of the discount or offer. Every new member selects a school of their choice when they register, and 50 pence from the membership fee will be forwarded to that school’s PTA to use as they wish within the school. Parents, other family members and local businesses can join PTA Pages as an advertiser and display their products and services in the database for the school of their choice. Advertisers can offer special deals and discounts to other members and are encouraged to offer between 5% and 30%. All advert details can be edited by accessing the advertisers’ login area and advert editor. Photos, graphics and hyperlinks to websites can also be added. Advertisers can advertise for as little as £10 per annum and £40 for an enhanced listing. Jules Farrington-Griffiths, director of PTA Pages, says: “PTA Pages was inspired by an incident that happened at a school event. Chatting with other parents, I discovered that one was a carpet fitter; as we’d recently had a carpet fitted we mentioned that, had we known, we would have used him. He responded by saying that he would have offered us ‘mates rates’. We realised that a network for parents which offered discounted rates on products and services would be enormously advantageous to parents and teachers and the concept was born.” PTA Pages can be found at http://www.ptapages.co.uk and more information is available from Jules or Kate on 01562 752028.
