Long distance calling cards help students afford to call their parents while away at university and college.

Campuses offer students the chance to meet and bond with one another and to experience life away from home.  Many students do not subscribe to dormitory land line phones, and rather opt for the freedom and flexibility of cell phones in their place.  This poses a problem as many cellular carriers charge exurbanite long distance rates.

Students should not sign contracts with long distance companies as they are typically not living in residence for the full year of the contract.  Furthermore, shared dormitory phone lines can lead to billing complications for students and parents.   Most users choose to buy one phone card and share the PIN number between the family, allowing more flexibility of use.
