TalkTalk broadband looks to have made an excellent start in its quest to shakeup the broadband marketplace, gaining fourth place in the Broadband Genie sales index, finishing only behind established heavyweights Tiscali, Virgin.net and BT. Philip Wilkinson of independent broadband comparison site Broadband Genie commented: "TalkTalk's 'free' broadband offering, has given it a great advertising hook, which it has pursued aggressively both online and on the high street via its Carphone Warehouse outlets. "The upside's of TalkTalk broadband are clear: superfast 8Mb speed, a whopping 40GB usage limit, and a great price (free!). But, as with any great deal, there are also downsides - namely: 18-month contract (longer than most other providerS), a setup fee of £30, and you do - of course - have to get your phone line and call plan switched from BT which will set you back about £20 a month."
