TalkTalk broadband - the free 8Mb broadband service which is turning the UK broadband market on its head - is now available from broadband comparison service Broadband Genie. Ref. Carphone Warehouse - the company behind TalkTalk broadband - is peddling fast to take market share away from BT in particular, and is using this free broadband forever offer as an incentive to sign up to the TalkTalk telephone service. Sounds great. But there's no such thing - of course - as a free lunch, or even free broadband. You'll need to swap your phoneline to TalkTalk, and then pay them line rental (which is about the same as BT) and sign up to their Talk3 International call plan (which costs a further £9.99/month. So about £20/month in all, plus a setup fee of £29.99. Having said that, TalkTalk broadband still seems to be outstanding value. For £20 a month you get lightning fast 8Mb broadband, plus all calls to UK and internation landlines. Before you commit to signing up to a new broadband provider, or switching your connection, make sure you shop around.
