After last year’s success, the China International Consumer Goods Fair (CICGF) in Ningbo enters its seventh year. From 8 – 12 June 2008 companies from the international consumer goods industry will be present at the leading event for quality and branded products. Each year the importance of the trade fair grows. Currently, almost 20 percent of Chinese consumer goods are manufactured in Ningbo and the surrounding area, making the metropolis of 5 million people, near Shanghai, a hub for Chinese import and export. In 2007, 1550 exhibitors, covering 70,000 m2 in a state-of-the art exhibition facility, presented their products in the areas of clothing and household textiles, electrical and household appliances, commodities, office and leisure goods, as well as decorations, gifts, and delicacies. A total of 70,000 buyers from 113 countries visited the trade fair. Economically speaking, the 6th CICGF resulted in a successful export trade volume of US $1.011 billion, approximately 11% more than the previous fair. Import sales were estimated at US $50 million, considering the difficulties of an accurate estimation of after fair sales. Growing numbers are expected in all areas from The 7th China International Consumer Goods Fair will cover 90,000 m2, where a total of 4,000 stands can be set up. International exhibitors will receive special support from the CICGF Organising Committee and the Ningbo Ministry of Economic Affairs. “We are interested on expanding economic relations with other countries and would like to increase the import of high quality goods from abroad,” commented Vice Economic Minister, Li Xinhua. Thus, the government of the Chinese province offers an extensive contact program for international exhibitors as well as to institutions in the metropolitan area of Shanghai and Ningbo.Furthermore, the trip to the CICGF will be eased for international guests, because the prestige object of the region, the Hangzhou Bay Bridge will be opened at the same time as the fair. The direct connection between Ningbo and Shainghai over the bay reduces travel time between the two cities to an hour.
