South African apparel/fashion researcher Renato Palmi of the ReDress Consultancy-South Africa  is currently undertaking a research project in South Africa on the role of fashion weeks and how they play an important or not so important role in the development of fashion not only in South Africa but globally.

The researcher is asking if anyone wishes to assist him by providing the following information (academic papers/ research, case studies, organisations information etc). Any usage of material will be referenced and accredited to the author/s and organisation. The researcher is wanting to make contact and source information from: .
  • Academic papers/ studies relating to fashion week / apparel trade shows.
  •  The incorporation of ethical fashion/ informal economy craft into fashion design using fashion weeks as a platform to promote ethical fashion as well as the usage of fashion in poverty alleviation and development projects.
  • Commentary from designers who have participated in fashion weeks.(does/has participation help your brand/label.
  •  The owners or stakeholders who organize and run fashion weeks. (Growth of participation by designers, economic benefits of such events, support for and off these events by government, sponsors etc)
  • Developmental Government Departments that collaborate in fashion weeks.
  • Clothing organisations and fashion companies that ether participate in fashion weeks or have any comments on the benefits fashion weeks bring to the fashion sector.
Please email or direct me to any sources.  I will be most grateful to any suggestions, information and idea provided.
