Penny Haywood Calder address the Power Lunch Club on the importance of good PR.
Penny Haywood Calder, of PHPR Limited told the Power Lunch Club, the business networking organisation at their inaugural speaker's lunch in Edinburgh on the 17th of July that:
"PR, marketing and sales all too often operates with blinkers on in their own little silos. They ignore research that shows it's the combination of all three disciplines that works.
The raised profile generated by PR boosts sales & marketing by up to 50%!!
Doors open much more easily and people are more receptive to marketing materials if they have seen positive things about you in the media: editorial endorsement is the most powerful recommendation you can have because it is independent and reaches so many people.
But don't expect PR to do it on its own. 50% of 0 marketing and sales is still 0%! For every two or three sales enquiries prompted by a good article about you, there were hundreds, if not thousands who were warm to the idea of buying if you had reached them a few more times with marketing and sales contacts. It's criminal in my book to waste that PR effort by not backing it up with sales and marketing!"
That was the main message but Haywood Calder also exposed the anatomy of a press release and 10 triggers to put out a release based on her best-selling DIY PR book.
Gordon Dow, Managing Director of the Power Lunch Club said, “We were delighted when Penny agreed to speak at our event. Her reputation went before her and we could not have envisaged the success she would end up making the event.
Penny explained the value of good PR and showed the delegates how to structure a great professional press release for their business. But then she went above and beyond the “call of duty”, by asking everyone in the room to send her their press releases and she would review them.
A phrase was coined that day, this was the start of The Power Lunch Club Talks and these talks are all designed to give business something back. With advice and helpful tips from professionals who has either been a success in business or have driven business forwards toward success!”
The Power Lunch Club organises various networking events and talks in central Scotland. ___________________________________________
