England, UK, July 23, 2008 -- For businesses with geographically dispersed teams, online software is essential to overcome the barriers of distance, say two British companies.

Gis Rutten of children's food company, The Good Food Village, says the fact he is in Somerset, the accountant is in Salisbury, and the board and investors are dotted around the UK is “irrelevant” because they can all access the same set of accounts online using Xero accounting software.

It’s a similar story at online recruitment company BlueGlue which operates from three different locations in the UK.

FD, David Johnson says, “Running our accounts online saves us money, it increases our control, access is easy, and there is guaranteed security. We get one version of the truth to work from in terms of our financial position, and know that it is backed-up every day.”

“Now when there are any queries from other directors about the accounts, they look up the answers straight away by diving in to the numbers in Xero to find out where they came from,” says Rutten.
