The research also revealed that 22 per cent of commuting time is spent completing work-related tasks, contributing 130 million productive minutes to workers’ schedules every day.

Over half of the working population (55 per cent) said they liked to be contactable at all times, with innovations such as BlackBerry business phones, PDAs and mobile broadband helping them to achieve this goal. 27 per cent said that such devices make their work journey more productive.

Last month, analyst Gartner called on businesses to look at new ways of increasing their mobile productivity amid reports that 90 per cent of businesses now have remote workers.
