Former Security Officer Starts New Career As A Direct Response Copywriter After 20 years as a Security Officer and Bar Bouncer…James Brown has made what some would consider to be an unusual career change. It all started when James took his love of martial arts and began a martial arts website. The webmaster that James had hired to create the martial arts site, needed copy and liked the style in which James wrote. For two years, James promoted his site, wrote for others-all while holding down a security job in the world’s top hotel chain. It came as huge surprise to James when the webmaster suggested that copywriting was a full time occupation that should be considered. After giving it much thought, James enrolled in the highly acclaimed AWAI direct response copywriting course. It soon became apparent however, that in order to succeed and be more than an average copywriter-a coach was needed. The result was a new career in direct response copywriting, with the focus on phone book advertising. Business owners were paying huge dollars for advertising that just wasn’t working. By pointing out how the majority of all ads look the same, James was able to educate his clients to the idea of direct response phone book ads. While marketing his business via direct response postcards, James came upon a client with a unique problem. The client had six ads in different phone books all coming due at different times. After much discussion, the client then agreed that a direct response postcard would be more beneficial to her overall business. The contract was signed and then James got the email. The client wanted a newspaper ad as well, which was not in the contract. Like all direct response copywriters, James rolled up his sleeves and learned in a short timeframe; how to write outstanding newspaper ads. This story is all too familiar to most copywriters. The client wants assistance with marketing/copywriting that is alien to the copywriter they have hired. James continued to receive calls and emails requesting items like auto responders, long copy letters and newspaper ads. Although livewiredirectmarketing.com does not discuss anything except phone book ads…the concepts are the same for any copywriting jobs. Grab the attention of the reader in seven seconds or less, tell a story, and give the reader an exciting reason to take a direct response right now. The third website for James-was born on May 15th, 2008. martial-arts-copywriter.com really shows what James is passionate about. In an effort to provide outstanding copy and resources for martial arts schools and product sales…James Brown talks openly about the impact martial arts has had on his life. By discussing writing a e-book for a client, James realized that his own company could venture in info-marketing. Doing a checklist showed James that he had enough material for three fascinating e-books about his own life…plus a wealth of public domain material. The action plan for livewiredirectmarketing enterprises, is to have a fourth website up and running by the middle of November, 2008. It has been a long standing dream for James to teach people how to motivate themselves to achieve their dreams. About livewiredirectmarketing enterprisesThe company was started in July/2007 with the website going up shortly after that. It is the second company that James Brown started prior to “retiring” from being a security officer. When asked what skills that he could bring the table from being a security officer, James responded with this: “For 20 years I dealt with all kinds of incidents and people from all walks of life. You would think that I had to get physical a lot but I found that I had a natural way of persuading people to do what I wanted. There were a lot of verbal confrontations for sure; however the proper phrasing and timing got me the results I needed. In 20 years of security, you learn exactly how people think and what motivates them. I use these skills to write unique copy. Sure you can hire someone with a lot more experience but that doesn’t mean they won’t produce cookie cutter copy” |
