Glasgow based novelist Douglas Davidson has overcome dyslexia to produce an outstanding heroic fantasy novel. Child of the Storm, his debut novel was released this week by Cauliay Publishing one of Scotland's fastest growing traditional publishers.
Glasgow based novelist Douglas Davidson’s brilliant debut novel Child of the Storm is indeed set to take the world of literature by storm. His swashbuckling adventure brings together all the best elements of heroic fantasy. Together with this and his amazing imagination he has managed to produce a novel of outstanding quality. His debut novel alone stands out as a future classic in its genre, but what is perhaps more amazing is that Douglas Davidson has suffered from dyslexia all his life. A spokesperson for Cauliay Publishing based in Aberdeen and one of Scotland’s fastest growing traditional publishers who published the novel this week said: “The manuscript was accepted because of its powerful imagery and non-stop action. I had no idea at that time that the person who wrote it was dyslexic.” That statement gives us some idea of the mountain the author has climbed since his schooldays when he was written off by some of his teachers as an idiot and bullied mercilessly by some of his schoolmates because of his inability to communicate using the written word. Anyone who reads his breath-taking debut novel will soon realise that he certainly knows how to communicate now. With the love and support of his family and friends he developed a way to deal with his condition and although he still has difficulty with some words he has obviously overcome it to become such a wonderful storyteller. Child of the Storm tells the story of a young man who unknowingly inherits the mantle of the ’chosen one’, a man who is destined to lead his people in their struggle against an allied force of evil enemy nations. Sorcery, bloodthirsty battles and of course romance hold the reader spellbound from the opening page until the final epic encounter. Besides his debut novel Davidson is also a published poet, an actor with TV and film role credits against his name and he is a fine musician/songwriter. In recognition of the help and support he received as a young man he now visits schools around Scotland to talk to children about his writing and his many challenges. He has already been a source of hope and inspiration to hundreds of budding young writers. His book is available from all the usual high street bookstores and Internet bookstore outlets.
