PublishAmerica
Written by Larry Cooperman

PublishAmerica, a United States Vanity Publisher, who boasts of having 26,000 authors in seven years, who also claims that they are "traditional publishers," are hounded by their own authors.

That's right.  Many of the very authors they have defrauded have been turing around in highy numbers and attacking PublishAmerica for deception.  The main contention is that they are, in no way, a traditional publisher but a back-end vanity press.

The real revenue of PublishAmerica is the authors themselves.  Charging 20% higher cover prices than normal book publishers, PublishAmerica offeres discounts to their authors, from 40% to 50%, with incentives under the banner of "March Madness," "Spring Special" and marketing kitsch such as this, hounds authors to buy, buy, buy.

Particularly interesting is that PublishAmerica has no professional editing, does not read any of the books they take in, most notably "Atlanta Nights," a novel written by over twenty science fiction authors insulted by PublishAmerica when they contended that it takes no imagination or talent to write Science Fiction because the stories are not plausible.

Authors also contend that PublishAmerica is not able to get any of their books into chain bookstores because they have no return policy.  If you do walk into a Barnes and Nobele, authors contend, there is not one PublishAmerica title present.

It is this author's wish that you will not consider this publisher especially if you are a writer of literary fiction as PublishAmerica has no professional editing.
