Four children (Samuel, Thomas, Georgie and Rebecca) enter a world called Tintonia that exists under the ground in another dimension.
Four children (Samuel, Thomas, Georgie and Rebecca) enter a world called Tintonia that exists under the ground in another dimension. They are befriended by the Elfin people and receive help and special gifts from the different characters that they meet, including a Mermaid named Narda, a Giant called Robert and a Wizard called Dr Hitzvelgar. They learn to stick together and eventually return to their own world, having helped to defeat an army of Dwarfs. This story perfectly combines the adventures of The Famous Five with the fantasy world of Alice in Wonderland.
About the Author: Kevin Gritten lives in the South East of England with his wife and children, around whom the story of Tintonia is based. Kevin wanted to write an adventure story for them that would show the importance of sticking together and emphasise the bonds between brothers and sisters. A second novel featuring the same central characters is nearly complete. Tintonia has been read as a class reading book in two primary schools. Kevin has also written a series of short stories, one of which was produced as a play in school. Kevin is a professionally trained singer and has appeared in musicals, plays and pantomime. He has appeared in two children’s T.V. shows.
Excerpt from the book:
“Dwarfs” Prince Rodric replied. Georgie tried not to show her concern as they both re-mounted as casually as they could. When they were both in the saddle, a loud yell went up from the woods on one side and small men, that Georgie realised were dwarfs, came running towards them.
“Go!” Shouted Prince Rodric and they both kicked their horses and sped off as quickly as they could. The dwarfs were quicker though and covered the ground between the wood and the riders very quickly. Most had ropes like lassos, which they spun over their heads and threw at Georgie and Prince Rodric, trying to snare them and bring them down off their horses. Georgie managed to knock one rope away with her free arm and she moved Lundo’s head so that another missed him. Then she kicked his side, heading off, sending two dwarfs in front of her flying into the air.
At the same time she kicked another dwarf away with her foot. Then she was off, letting Lundo have his head, she sped away. Then she noticed that Prince Rodric wasn’t with her so she pulled on the reins, brought Lundo to a halt and turned. Prince Rodric had not been so lucky. One rope had caught the stallion’s head and another had caught one of Prince Rodric’s arms. The dwarfs were milling around him, punching and pulling him. He was finding it difficult to stay on his horse."
