Beyond the mortal world of man, amongst the vast tainted nothingness of the void, exists the Dragon World.

A tiny beacon of light amid the nightmares of mankind. A beacon of light that stands at the brink of destruction. Time is running out; the balance of magic is changing; the land of the Dragons is being destroyed. The only way to stop it and restore order is to retrieve a staff of power kept deep within the snowbound lands of the Ice Dragon, a land in which even the bravest of Dragons fear to tread. In Bennett’s world there’s no such thing as Dragons, but if that’s so, why are there two huge blue eyes staring at him out of the darkness? Bennett sets of on the adventure of his life. Can he do it? All in one night?

About the Author:  Richard Hayes lives in Sittingbourne in Kent, England.  Richard works for SouthEastern Railway and is currently writing more fantasy-style children’s books.

Excerpt from the book:

“The silver glow from the full moon overhead lit all but the darkest corners of the room.  The big red letters of the clock on the bedside table said the time was two o’clock in the morning.   Bennett had woken five minutes earlier as he did every night. He now lay there watching the moon shadows flicker on the furniture and walls, for he was unable to get back off to sleep.

At the bottom of the bed on his chest of draws sat a green dragon hand puppet.  Around its neck was a leather tag with a raised symbol in silver that glinted slightly in the moonlight. For as long as he could remember the dragon had sat there and every night it had been taken by his dad and used to tell stories of daring adventures in which Bennett would ride the dragon in a magical world.

Bennett could still remember the sense of wonder and excitement that would come over him as his dad told him these stories.  Each story had seemed to be real and part of him still believed that he had lived these adventures.  Now he was eight and most of this magic had gone, mainly because neither he nor any of his friends at school believed in dragons anymore.

Bennett lay on his pillows looking at the dragon that had fired his imagination and had brought excitement for all those years.  ‘Tomorrow’ he thought ‘I will give it to my younger brother Finley, he still believes in dragons and magic and it will make a good birthday present for him’.”
