UNITED KINGDOM, 20 November 2007 – Customers of Emerald Group Publishing Limited have downloaded 50 million articles since the company first started collecting COUNTER-compliant statistics in 2002. Emerald was one of the first publishers to gain COUNTER status, meeting the international code of practice for reports that allow clients to measure the usage of online information products and services in a more consistent way. It also pioneered online journals and 12 years ago was one of the first publishers to launch an online digital collection of journals as a database. Monash University in Australia made the 50 millionth download in September 2007. Reaching the milestone of 50 million downloads in just five years from a base of 180 journals demonstrates the excellence and relevance of Emerald’s content to its user community in the management, information science and engineering fields.
