When best-selling author Val Tyler visits schools around World Book Day, 1st March, she won’t just be entertaining children. She is a supporter of Bookaid, the charity that sends books to developing countries. ‘Being able to read gives people opportunities in life,’ says Val, author of the critically acclaimed The Time Wreccas. The Time Apprentice, second in the Greenwich Chronicles series, is released in paperback by Puffin Books on World Book Day. The fast-paced fantasy adventure has already made a major impact in hardback. ‘Children love excitement, suspense and well-rounded characters,’ says Val, who was a successful teacher before turning full time to writing. Val enjoys visiting schools. ‘It keeps me in touch with young people,’ she says, ‘and I also have a chance to tell them briefly about Bookaid. We can make a real difference to people’s lives in poorer countries. By helping them with education we can enable them to help themselves.’ Anyone who wants to find out more about Bookaid can follow a link from Val’s website, www.valtyler.co.uk
