American Author Profiled in "Poetry Life and Times"
Written by Aberjhani
Friday, 02 February 2007

The new online issue of “Poetry Life and Times” features an extensive interview, conducted by writer Randall Barfield, with the author-poet Aberjhani, whose works include the internationally acclaimed “Encyclopedia of the Harlem Renaissance,” and the celebrated e-book, “Visions of a Skylark Dressed in Black.” The interview is available at: http://www.poetrylifeandtimes.com/aberjhanirandallinterview.html

A native of Georgia (U.S.A.) Aberjhani won the 2006 Savannah Poet and Spoken Word Artist Award; and, recently released his first spoken word CD, “The Goddess and the Skylark, Dancing Through the Word Labyrinth,” (with Nordette Adams and Mark “Rahkyt” Rockeymoore).

The “Poetry Life and Times” interview is an in-depth one that covers everything from the meaning and origin of the name Aberjhani to the author’s views on literary heroes, poverty, racism, sexuality, the significance of winning literary awards, and the Harlem Renaissance. The last subject makes the interview particularly noteworthy in light of the fact that February in the United States is Black History Month.

Although known primarily as a historian, poet/spoken word artist, and journalist, Aberjhani recently completed his first novel. “That turned out to be one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done,” said the author, “which I guess is why it took me several years to do it. Now all I need is the right publisher to help me market it to a multicultural multigenerational multi-everything kind of audience.”

In addition to those works already mentioned, Aberjhani is also the author of “I Made My Boy Out of Poetry”and “The Wisdom of W.E.B. Du Bois.”  His works are represented on several web sites, including AuthorsDen, The Writing Forum, EXPOSE’D, and the Independent Artists Company.
