FrequencyCast UK Podcast One Year of Broadcasting
Written by Steve Lawson
Sunday, 04 March 2007

March 2007 sees completion of the first year of broadcasting for online radio show, FrequencyCast.

FrequencyCast is a UK-based technology radio show that’s distributed as a podcast. Listeners can catch the shows online, or download the podcasts to their portable MP3 players, to listen on the move.

FrequencyCast takes a different approach to podcasting, as the show is driven entirely by feedback from the audience, and uses high production standards to differentiate itself from other shows.

Recently, the show has featured: Virgin Media vs. Sky,

BT Vision, Nintendo Wii, Voice-over-Internet, Freeview, the Top Up TV Anytime controversy and the Digital Switchover.

The FrequencyCast audience continues to grow, and feedback from the audience is extremely positive. With new products such as Video on Demand, a new generation of smartphones, and an even more competitive broadband and digital TV market, FrequencyCast is in for a busy second year on air.

The regular technology shows are presented by Carl and Pete, from studios near London. Carl, the show’s host, is a certified technophobe and suspicious of all new technologies. In contrast, Pete is a fan of all that’s new and untested in the world of technology. The pair has both worked for radio stations in the past, and the shows are prepared using high production values, making good use of music and sound effects to keep the show lively. While many podcasts out there are “one man and a microphone”, FrequencyCast strives to be different, presenting UK technology news in a lively, informative and well-packaged show format. Where possible, the show’s product reviews are hands-on, complete with sound effects and real-time reaction – not just reading out product specs and press releases.
FrequencyCast also differs from other tech podcasts, in that each show is built on feedback from the show’s listeners. “Focus”, which looks at a new area of technology in each show, is driven by votes from the audience, and “Interaction” offers help and advice to listeners that email, call the podline, or comment via the site’s blog.
FrequencyCast focuses on digital TV and radio in the UK, as well as the latest in wireless gadgets. In recent shows, FrequencyCast has looked at a range of topics including:
  • Sky vs. Virgin Media
  • MP3 and MP3 players
  • BT Vision
  • Digital Recorders
  • Nintendo Wii
  • Voice-over-Internet (VoIP)
  • Freeview
  • The Top Up TV Anytime controversy
  • TV on mobile phones
  • DAB radio
  • Broadband providers
  • The Digital Switchover
  • Satellite Navigation
  • Gadgets such as the Nabaztag wireless bunny, USB Turntable and MP3 sunglasses

The FrequencyCast audience continues to grow, and feedback from the audience is extremely positive. With new products such as Video on Demand, a new generation of smartphones, and an even more competitive broadband and digital TV market, FrequencyCast is in for a busy second year on air.
