FT. LAUDERDALE, FL – July 1, 2007 - The Wright brothers operated a bicycle shop in Dayton, OH that over time led to the first successful heavier-than-air “bicycle with wings” – and spawned an enormous industry.

In a somewhat parallel example, a South Florida manufacturer of aftermarket auto parts is finding itself producing small parts for the burgeoning medical equipment industry.

Scorpion Performance, Inc. is widely known in the high performance automobile industry for its rocker arms and related high-precision parts. Before most Scorpion parts leave the shipping department, they are treated to a highly polished “jewel-like” finish -- then are anodized in one of several distinctive colors – red, purple, blue, gold and clear. The anodizing process not only adds a touch of glamour to an otherwise mundane chunk of aluminum or steel, but adds a very thin protective coating to the part.

This process of bringing a bit of “charm” to ordinary metal parts is now appealing to manufacturers outside of the auto industry. A series of companies who manufacture medical equipment are seeking Scorpion’s anodizing services to add luster to many of their parts. One result has been the creation of a subsidiary, Anodizing LLC, to deal with these outside firms.

The more significant result of this activity is Scorpion’s decision to manufacture medical equipment parts themselves – as well as anodize them.

The company’s existing array of robotically-controlled machine tools are ideally suited to manufacture hundreds of various parts for the medical industry – right down to producing titanium screws for surgical operations.
