Everyone wants to get a good deal on his or her car insurance but how do you know a genuine discount from a dodgy one? Does a discount mean less cover when you claim from your insurance company?
Don’t get confused or distracted by the discounts on offer. There are two general areas where you could save money on your car insurance. The first is by shopping on the Internet. Most insurance companies have websites that offer online quotes and even discounts for insuring online. However, not all insurance companies offer the same online discounts. Some offer a flat rate while others may give you a discount based on your online quote so find out exactly how much you could save and how the discount is calculated. The second way you could save money on your car insurance is with a good driving record. Most car insurance companies offer a No Claims Discount to policy holders with a good driving record and a history of no claims on their car insurance. A No Claims Discount usually comes into effect if you haven’t made any claims on your insurance over a period of between 3 – 5 years. Some insurance companies offer a discount of up to a 65% if you build up a history of no claims over a period of 5 years. No Claims Discounts vary between insurance companies so make sure you understand how much you could save and if your No Claims Discount increases each year. As with any purchase, it pays to shop around when you are looking for car insurance. You can apply for quotes from a number of insurance companies online. Do some research and compare prices, terms and conditions and No Claims Discounts. Before you commit yourself to any insurance policy, always read the terms and conditions carefully so that there are no unexpected surprises when you claim. |
