Diane Lockward's newly released poetry collection, What Feeds Us, has been awarded the Quentin R. Howard Poetry Prize by Wind Publications. Diane Lockward of West Caldwell, NJ, returned home from several days at this year's Dodge Poetry Festival to discover that her new book, What Feeds Us, had been awarded the Quentin R. Howard Poetry Prize. What Feeds Us is described by the publisher as a collection of sensual and imaginative poems exploring the feminine mystique. Lockward's book has been praised by such poets as Thomas Lux who said, "What Feeds Us is sometimes humorous and sometimes heartbreaking. Diane Lockward's language is both plain-spoken and rich, lush. This is a wonderful book that might not nourish your body but certainly will nourish your heart." Public recognition and awards are not unusual for Lockward. She is the recipient of a 2003 Poetry Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and has received awards from North American Review, Louisiana Literature, the Newburyport Art Association, and the St. Louis Poetry Center. Her work has been nominated for four Pushcart Prizes, featured on Poetry Daily and Verse Daily, and read by Garrison Keillor on NPR’s The Writer’s Almanac. She has also been a featured poet at a number of festivals, such as the Warren County Poetry Festival, the Inkberry Festival, the Long Branch Poetry Festival, the Walt Whitman Poetry Festival, and the 2006 Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival.Lockward is also the author of two previous collections, Eve’s Red Dress (2003) and a chapbook, Against Perfection (1998). The Quentin R. Howard Poetry Prize is named in honor of the late Quentin Howard, founding editor of Wind Magazine, who for many years published some of the nation's most outstanding writers and poets. Review copies of What Feeds Us are available from the publisher upon request. For more information see http://windpub.com/books/whatfeedsus.htm |
