Gleeds appointed to Olympic Star’s Pool redevelopment

Gleeds, the International Management and Construction Consultancy, has been appointed to provide cost management services to a multi-million pound scheme to redevelop Sherwood Baths by Mansfield District Council. Located in Mansfield, the home of double gold winning swimmer Rebecca Adlington., Sherwood Baths is set for a major £4m redevelopment with proposals including an extension of the current four-lane pool to six lanes, new modern changing rooms, a larger gymnasium facility with separate changing facilities and a new multi-purpose room on the first floor. Plans for the scheme were made following consultation with user groups and local residents, and the newly refurbished swimming baths are due to be re-named in Adlington’s honour following her Olympic gold medals success in Beijing. The footprint of the site is to remain largely unchanged with the new facilities making more use of the space available with plans for the Westdale Road site also to include an energy saving system, with lower carbon dioxide emissions. With work just underway the scheduled opening for the new facility is September 2009.
