After many months of consultation and planning, construction has now begun on a range of attractive, energy efficient new homes near Suthers Street - the first in the town’s exciting plans to transform North Werneth and encourage more people to live in the area. Haslam Homes is building 63 properties ranging from two bedroom apartments to generous family sized five bedroom three storey homes with fully flexible accommodation. The homes will feature high quality fitted kitchens and designer style bathrooms, all built to Haslam’s renowned specification. Lower energy bills are a big attraction in new homes. Haslam Homes’ timber frame construction system offers extra insulation, including insulation in interior walls, giving even better fuel efficiency. Haslam Homes has worked with the HMR Pathfinder to ensure the new homes will reach the Eco Homes 'Very Good' Standard rating and CABE Building for Life ‘Silver’ standard – all good news when it comes to saving on household bills. Haslam Homes North West region sales manager, Adrian Wood said, “Haslam Homes are delighted to be the first to begin building the much needed new homes in North Werneth. For many years, buyers have struggled to find high quality homes in the range of sizes, designs and locations they want. As a result many have had to move out of the area." "Now, people will have the opportunity to stay in the neighbourhood, near their families and friends, and new buyers will be drawn from more expensive areas like Manchester, to settle in Oldham. The town is going through an exciting phase and the benefits of the regeneration scheme, already visible in the town centre, will continue to raise Oldham’s profile in the local housing market.” HMR Pathfinder Director, Alastair Graham said, “This is the first of several high quality new developments for north Werneth, helping to transform the whole area. The mix of family homes and apartments, and a choice in types of tenure is another step in giving the whole community the homes that it needs. People are seeing for themselves the quality of new homes and a better environment being executed through Housing Market Renewal in Oldham. These homes will further strengthen this reputation.” Haslam Homes is working in partnership with Oldham Council and West Pennine Housing Association to offer 21 of the 63 new homes in this first phase for rent. Cabinet Member for Environment and Regeneration Councillor Dave Hibbert said, “This is an excellent start in providing high quality eco-homes that offer the potential to be economically efficient and environmentally friendly. Not only will homeowners benefit from this scheme but also the environment. It is important that we all do our bit to reduce our carbon emissions and this development offers 63 families the opportunity to do their bit.” Julie Woodhead, Director of West Pennine Housing Association, part of the Regenda Group agreed, “We are excited to see work start on Suthers Steet, which will offer much desired rented accommodation offering a choice of homes to suit the needs of local people. There will be a mix of three, four and five bedroom houses in addition to some two-bedroom apartments. We are glad to be working in partnership to achieve the successful regeneration of the Werneth area.” |
