The UK Post Office Crisis Takes A Musical Twist Top Norwich Studio Moves In Dad's Army My Space Hit
A Village on the North Norfolk coast of England fighting for the survival of it's Post Office has captured the hearts of a Nation with it's resilient stance. After an emotional protest march on the 3rd of May 2008 where hundreds of people poured onto the streets, East Runton has been under the media spotlight and has attracted celebrities, MP's and even paved the way for a song that has become an anthem of hope for post offices across the UK. Andreas Yiasimi, former front man for world music band, The Constantia Brothers was moved by the elderly and disabled that took part in the historic protest that blocked the streets in scenes rarely witnessed since the second world war. "I knew immediately that I wanted to contribute something" said Andreas "It was done to great affect with Live Aid so I decided to launch a project called Post Aid. I have lived in the village with my family at Constantia Cottage Restaurant for over 28 years and the post office is a vital part of our community" The song called 'Dads Army' was penned by Andreas and recorded in a 24 hour race against time at Ashwood Studios in Norwich. An official Post Aid My Space has been set up within the tight schedule ready to project the song to the world. With a catchy chorus and three verses Mr Yiasimi hopes the single might serve as a rallying cry for anti-closure protesters around the country. The song has been given away with absolutely no financial gain and can be downloaded free here http://www.myspace.com/andreaspostaid a You Tube Video of 'Dad's Army' can be found here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbKQ6eVpi0U The chorus goes: "We are Dad's Army, you must be barmy, this post office is all we have to show. "You cannot take our shop away, we need it for a rainy day, it breaks my heart when you say it has to close." East Runton post office is one of the 53 branches in the country facing the axe under proposals by Post Office Ltd. |
