The Quotes UK debut album launch attracts a sell-out crowd and positions them as one of the hot new bands to watch in 2009.
Reading, Berkshire, October 1st 2008.
The self-titled debut album from The Quotes was launched in Reading last Friday night to a hall packed with supporters spanning a wide age range. Their appeal to teen listeners and university-goers is an obvious one due to their songs’ energetic and modern feel, but also for the seasoned rock listeners, old enough to be their parents… the quality and tightness of their songs shines through and puts them in a class above most debut bands.
On one hand there were signs of Kings of Leon, Razorlight and The Zutons but on the other, was Bon Jovi, The Verve and dare I say it, Paul McCartney, wrapped into a stunningly polished performance that had the crowd screaming for more at the end. And we got more…in the form of a 12-track album which could easily result in some chart topping material if the right commercial backing is found. Emma Dilemma and Why Johnny Why stand out as candidates for serious radio play but 4 or 5 more tracks including Clowns and Superstars and the ballad, Glorious Day also deserve serious recognition.
Independent Berkshire music critic, David Shimell from Snorting Pig Promotions said “Their harmonies, the stage performance and even the classic drum solo at the start of the encore reminded me of bands who have been touring for 10 years or more rather than a bunch of 18 year olds just setting out on their musical careers. In speaking to the band after the concert, it seems that rather than going off to university, they will be seriously focussing on their musical ambitions and the 4 band members will concentrate exclusively on touring during the remainder of 2008 and the whole of 2009. This is a serious new band to look out for, don’t miss them and check out the album”.
