The 10th volume of the monumental edition Marc-Antoine Charpentier of the CMBV concerns the motets for 6 vocal parts accompanied by 2 trebles viola and figured bass. Scientific editor Theodora Psychoyou did an important research on manuscripts of the composer to understand and restore the works, including the famous Miserere des Jesuites.

The monumental edition Marc-Antoine Charpentier of the Centre de Musique baroque de Versailles publish and study the work of one of the most famous French baroque composer. This edition, which began in 1992 under the scholarship of Jean Duron and Catherine Cessac, is the first to focus on publication of the complete work of the composer in modern transcription; the pieces are organized by staff, first to keep this fantastic music available to performers, second to study the composer, his evolution.

This volume brings together all motets for a small choir of 6 parts (often 8 voices are needed), accompanied by an instrumental trio. They were composed between 1684 and 1687 for the prestigious Duchess of Guise. Charpentier takes advantage of this rare and colourful effective to use different vocal combination  and to develop an extremely skilful counterpoint that reveal his Italian influences.

In her introduction, Theodora Psychoyou focuses particular attention to studying the different steps that reveal the manuscripts of Marc-Antoine Charpentier. An amazing work that enlighten the craft of a composer when he needs to reuse its works in very different contexts (and therefore with different staff). This study resolves the contradictions of many amendments of Charpentier, particularly in his Miserere mei Deus more known as the Miserere des Jesuites, restored here in the original version composed for the musicians of Duchess of Guise.

With the introduction in French and English, the volume also contains the texts of motets (and their translation into French and English), 6 facsimiles in illustrations, Annuntiate superi [H.333], Litany of the Virgin [H.83], Miserere mei Deus [H.193-193a], Song of Zachary [H.345], Bonum est confiteri Domino [H.195] and a critical apparatus. Each piece is available separately for performers.
