In September 2009, Phuket will cater to more than 1200 delegates of The World Medical Health Tourism Conference: A New Way Forward in 2009. Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB)’s participation and sponsorship in this internationally diverse networking event aims not only to promote Thailand as medical tourism destination but also as a preferred venue for international meetings, conventions, exhibitions and conferences to the worldwide audience. Securing major sponsors such as TCEB and Thai Airways aid in the early commencement of international marketing campaign of the conference and major speakers had been recently secured, both through Call for Papers and by special invitations. The whole of Phuket Island is getting behind the conference. Local supporters range from local community groups, tourism operators and many of the major hoteliers and resort owners namely Woraburi Phuket Resort, Millennium Resort Patong, The Moevenpick Resort, Karon Beach Resort of Kata Group, Aquamarine Resort, Cape Panwa Hotel and Andaman Seaview Hotel group. With another eleven month’s preparation ahead of us, the outlook for the success of the conference is looking extremely good and promising. Phuket, dubbed as the medical tourism hub in Asia, is the ideal location to hold the conference because of its infrastructure, its capacity to host massive number of international guests and the availability of cutting-edge technology, internationally trained medical experts manning their world class medical facilities. The World Medical Health Tourism Conference 2009 is one of the initiatives in propping up Phuket as the major destination not only for tourism but also for medical, health and wellness services in Thailand. Within the next four weeks, the floor plan or lay out for exhibitors at the venue, Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa, will be publish online and application forms will be available for the exhibitors to download from our website. The exciting part of the exhibition is that it will be located adjacent to the conference hall and to the coffee break station, giving the conference delegates a great opportunity to interact with the exhibitors and giving the exhibitors a bird’s eye view of the conference proceedings which can only lead to greater promotion of Thailand. Although the formal conference runs only for three days, many pre-conference and post-conference activities had been planned, expecting to bring a windfall to Phuket of about US$10 million over the two weeks period.
