Private health insurance providers, CS Healthcare, have responded to the recent Government and EU announcements to provide cross-border healthcare by highlighting the fact that those public sector employees with comprehensive medical insurance can have the best of both worlds.

With the European Commissions latest unveiling, UK residents will have access to a healthcare package that allows them to receive medical treatment elsewhere in the EU whilst being reimbursed for their treatment once back in the UK*.

Whilst the scheme provides a solution for individuals whom would otherwise have to wait for treatment on the NHS, CS Healthcare claim that private medical insurance is a much simpler way to fund health treatments without having to leave UK soil.

Joanne Lumb, Head of Medical and Provider Services at the specialist health insurance company, stated;

"Its clear that the Government are trying to find more ways to take pressure off the NHS and provide patients with more choice when it comes to where they are treated. Receiving treatment overseas is becoming a much more viable solution for UK residents who want treatment quickly. Private medical insurance can solve both of these problems as insurance policies can provide faster access to treatment in the very best hospitals without the added stress of travelling abroad."

"With more and more individuals looking overseas for treatment our private medical insurance policies can offer civil and public sector workers a viable solution, allowing them to receive a high standard of healthcare here in the UK whilst enabling them to choose when and where they are treated. Like many things private medical insurance does come with a cost but the benefits and peace of mind far outweigh any financial outgoings" she continued when asked about the recent developments.

The new initiative is being viewed by many as an effort to provide UK citizens with more choice when it comes to medical treatment. However, anyone undertaking the new scheme will still be set to pay any difference if treatment abroad is more expensive than that provided by the NHS in the UK, making private health insurance a highly viable alternative for medical treatment at a time, place and cost to suit you.
