Purple Knight Productions, also know as PK Films, are to embark on an ambitious venture to create Scarborough's very own TV and Film studios. The company are on the look out for suitable buildings to turn into studios. The idea is the result of a search for local premises to base the Production Company. 'As we are planning a new sit com and a number of documentaries we felt it would be of benefit to the local area to find our own studio and make these productions in Scarborough' said Matt Loades, director. 'Scarborough is fast becoming a major player in the creative sector and why shouldn't we have our own TV and film facility' Mr Loades, continued. In recent months the development of Woodend Creative Workspace in the Sitwell family former residence has placed Scarborough firmly on the Creative and Artistic map. Purple Knight are based at the new development and recognise the need for facilities like this, as a way to collaborate and interact with likeminded creative people.Discussions have already taken place between Purple Knight and local officials to formulate a plan for the TV and Film studio and a number of buildings have been short listed as potential sites.Scarborough is a popular destination for film crews already and a number of TV shows and feature films regularly use this stunning location. Only last week Timothy Spall and Jim Broadbent were in town filming for the new film about Brian Clough. The Royal on ITV film in and around Scarborough for a large part of the year. Little Voice (Michael Caine, Jim Broadbent, Jane Horricks, Ewan McGregor) and Possession (Gwyneth Paltrow, Aaron Eckhart) are just two of the successful feature films to have been filmed in and around Scarborough. With this in mind Mr Loades states 'I think that a professional studio space will allow many companies who enjoy filming on location in our area, the chance to use the new studio space and plan for any breaks in filming for bad weather. The space will also allow the local community to use a professional TV studio for themselves. Community TV and educational programmes by the local universities and colleges would generate revenue for local education facilities, and individuals.'Purple Knight are forging links with the local university already and are collaborating with film and media students to produce the DVD for the graduation day celebrations taking place in July. For further information or to offer your support to our campaign to create 'the next Hollywood' please email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or call 07843 056007.
