IT could spell the end of the classic postcard as a new era of 'postcards' are unveiled by Yorkshire Tourist Board (YTB). Instead of the typical designs of people, scenery and traditional seaside saucy gags, visitors can now buy a DVD postcard which plays fantastic moving scenes and pulsating sounds capturing the very essence of Yorkshire. The new postcard is the brainchild of Steve Lord at Halifax-based ChromaVision Media which has signed a deal with YTB to stock the impressive DVD postcard throughout the region’s Tourist Information Centre network, subject to demand. And other outlets are lining up to stock them for the summer. Steve says: "It's quite a novel way to send someone something that shows the region in all its glory. The first postcard DVD is based in Yorkshire but that's not to say we won't be looking at other areas if this takes off." The DVD features over 35 minutes of video with narration and music and covers a wealth of destinations within the region including the Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors, the Yorkshire coast and the city of York. Costing just £4.99, the postcard contains a full-sized DVD and is a standard UK letter weight. Joanna Royle, Marketing Director, YTB said: “We’ve promoted virtual postcards for some time but this is something completely new. It’s like a picture postcard with a difference. The short film on the region works effectively to highlight great places to visit, things to do and experience whilst staying in the county. “I am sure the new postcards will be a huge hit and will help sell on the true diversity of the region to visitors friends and relatives in a really cost effective and engaging way.” Steve adds: "The reaction has been very good so far and YTB and all the stockists are very excited about how well it may do." Those unable to buy a postcard from Tourist Information Centres and other stockists can buy them online where a message will be placed on the postcard before sending to someone.
