Certain legislation makes it necessary for affiliates to pay the sales tax. In some cases it might get rebated as well.

Certain legislation makes it necessary for affiliates to pay the sales tax. In some cases it might get rebated as well.

Amazon.com, one of the pioneers in affiliate marketing, has challenged the state law to have sales tax from web site owners that are not based in the state. A complaint was filed by Amazon.com Inc on April 25, stating that the new law which was passed by state legislature earlier in April was vague and overly broad.

Amazon.com is one of the leading providers of affiliate programs . These programs enable thousands of web site owners to advertise the advertisements of Amazon. The company has also debated that the advertisers or affiliates have no physical presence in the state and are not the agents of the company.

Affiliate marketing agencies and affiliate networks have to consider the state laws that apply in any particular state. There are many affiliate networks and agencies that provide global services. However, legislations like the one that has been mentioned above can affect the operations.

It is also the responsibility of the affiliates to check whether they are entitled to sales tax and conform to the jurisdictions. The leading affiliate network has filed a complaint based on some concrete arguments. If the same holds true the legislature has to change and alter the law or allow provisions.

If you ever come across something like Affiliate Program India or some marketing agencies that allows advertising on behalf of a merchant, make sure that you are informed about the laws and other related information.
