June 8th 2008The pet industry in Australia is a huge, in 2005; the Australian Companion Animal Council Inc estimated that total consumer expenditure on pet care products and services was $4.62 billion in 2005.Australia has one of the highest instances of pet ownership in the world, with 8 million pets versus 4.8 million children therefore it is no surprise that the pet industry is starting to see more luxury pet items available as people live longer, have less children and treat their pet as an important member of their family.Luxury online pet store owner Leigh Romeo says "There are so many luxury pet items coming out every year, from designer dog clothes to Swarovski encrusted crystal collars to gourmet dog treats. We opened our online store in September 2007 and we have been overwhelmed by the popularity of our products."Snooty Paws was established after discovering a huge gap in the Australian luxury pet market. Leigh says "There are so many really great luxury online pet stores in the US and Europe and in Australia all the pet stores both online and traditional were still selling the same old bland nylon dog collars and ceramic bowls, we realised that people want to spoil their pet with unique gifts."
