Legal Inc launches real-time transcription software

Litigation support and eCourt specialist Legal Inc is set to challenge Thomson’s domination of real-time transcription software with potentially the biggest shake-up in court reporting technology for years.

At the end of March, Legal Inc will formally unveil Transcend, a new transcription solution designed to compete with Thomson’s market leader LiveNote, with enhanced functionality at lower cost cited as a key sales driver. A soft launch to existing clients has already elicited positive feedback and a warm welcome for a long-awaited alternative at the top end of the real-time transcription market.

The company has secured exclusive distribution rights initially for the UK and Europe but will also work with the software’s developer, LegalCraft, to build the Transcend brand globally. Lisa Burton, Legal Inc director and one of the UK’s leading eCourt experts, believes that a choice of solutions is well overdue:

“There’s no doubt that LiveNote is a quality application and one that has set the standards for court reporting technology. But a challenger to its market leadership is well over-due and that’s what excites me about Transcend – here at last is a product that can help open up the market and give law firms a better value option. The original vision was to develop something that was ‘better than the best’ but with a more attractive pricing model. The end result has taken the best of the best, added new tools and features and dropped the cost, making it not just more desirable but much more accessible for those wanting to leverage the benefits of real-time transcription.”

Key functional enhancements include full customisation capability, even on the fly; the ability to access more than one ‘live’ transcript remotely; the means for remote users to look up historic transcripts without interrupting the live stream; the ability to create annotations based on chronologies and take chronology-based reports; the option to save transcripts and relevant information in multiple data sources; the facility to support multiple languages; the means to search across real-time and completed transcripts simultaneously; and the running of the application in full screen mode.

Legal Inc will implement and support Transcend installations as part of their expanding eCourt services portfolio. Further eCourt developments are due to be announced shortly.
