The enormous success of Earth Hour around the world has inspired PCEnergySaver to make its software available at no charge for a limited time.Phantom load, idle current, vampire power, wall wart; what do they mean?
They mean devices use and waste electricity when they aren't even on, and they're everywhere. Did you know your computer is one if the biggest offenders? PCenergySaver is a tool to help you save the planet and money   Studies show about half the energy to run a PC is wasted. Further, according to industry researchers Gartner Group, PC and monitor combinations account for 40 percent of global carbon dioxide emissions associated with IT devices. PCenergySaver is the tool to let you manage the power settings to stop this 'vampire power'.Computer equipment is one of the fastest growing electric loads in the world.  Unfortunately, a large part of the energy used by computers is wasted. This is because PCs are often kept on in full power mode when they aren’t being used. Studies show on average PC’s are actively used barely half of the time during the day. A significant proportion of computers in are left on overnight.  The cheapest and most effective way to reduce the energy consumption is to switch it off when it's not being used. Turning off your computer after hours and on weekends can save up $100 and half a tonne of carbon dioxide per year for each computer. Many wrongly believe turning their computers on and off uses more power and can damage the hard disk. This is WRONG! Others think screen savers prevent burnout, Double WRONG! Todays computers were designed to cope with many start-up cycles, probably because MS has to restart frequently. Switching your computer off has no significant effect on life of the computer, it probably extends its life. It will almost certainly help in how memory is handled and remember. Unattended computers that are left on are usually a security and fire risk. Screen savers actually use more energy than when a computer is idle. To save energy turn computer monitors off when they are not in use, and kill the screensaver. New monitors are “light years” ahead of the old ones. It doesn’t happen any more. Go to www.pcenergysaver.com for the free download
