Predictably, the recent rise in A-Level pass rates has been met with criticism of exam boards and education bodies for making exams too easy, despite the fact that the actual figures have risen only slightly, by around 0.2%.  

Whilst the shadow cabinet and countless others will debate the merits of these results, it is important to remember that there are thousands of students who have not done as well as expected.

These students are often not awarded a place on their chosen university course and must rely on the daunting prospect of ‘clearing.’ This is the process of finding a place on a course which is undersubscribed and will accept them based on the grades they have attained.

Each year, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) estimate that there are around 30,000 students who go through this process.

UCAS have teamed up with online video streaming specialists Streaming Tank to create a series of videos designed to help and advise students on the process of applying for University courses. This includes a useful guide to the process of clearing.
