Hippy Dolls, Yucky Love and Annoying Leprechauns.......................

The Small and Short of it

Going all toxic green and B-movie on us this month is Danny Allison and his ad for the BBC's small screen short films festival 'Sizemology'.

Commissioned by the BBC's Bren Callaghan and Dave McTague at Another Media, the ad is appearing in print, poster and online. For Danny it meant testing new waters: "I have never tackled the neon-style colour range before, and I also thought I'd never be spending my days carving faces into Alka Seltzers in order to make a living. What a great job!"

Never Trust a Hippy

Paul Holland is among the 100 artists, photographers and designers contributing these customized 50cm high plastic figurines (known as "Qees") for the children's charity Paris Tout P'tits.

Entitled "Never Trust a Hippy", Paul's creation kidnaps the ideas of "flower power"and "summer of love" in order to beg the question: "Where'd all the LOVE go?" The entire collection of figures is being auctioned at the Christie's auction house (France) this month.

Welcome to Adam Lowe

A warm welcome please for Adam Lowe and his particularly fine illustration work.

An unusual and interesting palette is underpinned by strong drawing skills and studies of people that place Adam, in his own words: "in the rarefied space that is fashion's stylistic trump card".

Damn These Leprechauns!

Naughty leprechauns can be a right nuisance, and Sholto Walker brings that sobering fact home in these delightful illustrations for Harper Collins.

Appearing in Gervase Phinn's collection "The Golden Turtle and Other Stories" and commissioned by Nikki Kenwood at Harper Collins, Sholto's pictures illustrate the woeful tale of a mischievous leprechaun and the mayhem he causes.

Bringing on the Muscle

Big on muscle right now is Paul Daviz and this madcap 3-page pullout for famed American wrestling publication WWE Magazine.

Commissioned by Brant Louck via our US office, his action-packed illustration lampoons the pumped-up world of show wrestling to hilarious effect. Whatever you do though, don't say they're faking it.

That Yucky Love Thing

is the title of an enchanting new children's book by Michael Catchpool featuring wonderful illustration work by Victoria Ball.

Commissioned by Paula Burgess at Gullane, the book recounts the tale of young Sam and his attempts to escape the "yucky hugging and kissing he sees everywhere he looks". Says Victoria: "It was a really fun book to work on. The team had clear ideas on the illustrations but I was still allowed lots of creative freedom."

Exhibiting Stylish Tendencies

Strong on graphics, colour and style is this cool poster by Max Gregor for The Bricklane Gallery.

The gallery is running a competition for student art on the theme of 'Exhibiting' and Max's image of a girl presenting her work to the viewer captures the idea perfectly.

Going Large for the Castle

The chronicles of Cleopatra are told in this colossal illustration by Hannah Firmin for the National Trust and Dunster Castle near Minehead in Somerset.

On show in the castle's leather gallery, Hannah's 8-foot high piece is replacing a set of 17th century Dutch paintings currently undergoing restoration, and it has already garnered much interest—with features to come in BBC Homes and Antiques Magazine as well as the National Trust's own magazine.
