Hants-based Midex, specialist in the processing and reuse of end of life computer waste and WEEE (waste electrical and electronic) goods recycling, has announced that it is working with Slough Borough Council to help recycle redundant computer equipment as part of the Council’s drive towards the use of more energy-efficient IT.

Computer Waste Recycling Company

Hants-based Midex, specialist in the processing and reuse of end of life computer waste and WEEE (waste electrical and electronic) goods recycling, has announced that it is working with Slough Borough Council to help recycle redundant computer equipment as part of the Council’s drive towards the use of more energy-efficient IT.

To help support the IT recycling and modernisation programme, Midex collects between 550 and 2,500 kilos of obsolete PII computer waste, printers and CRT monitors, up to ten times a year for recycling. Some 50,000 kilos of waste equipment has been collected from offices in Slough to date, releasing valuable storage space for the council.

Slough Borough Council chose Midex as its preferred processing facility, as it was satisfied that all data held on the computers and I.T. Equipment would be completely destroyed and the maximum amount of materials recycled.

Weee Recycling and Disposal

On arrival at the reprocessing plant, Weee material is de-bulked and broken down into components parts. The plastic is set aside for collection by a specialist recycler whilst the remaining waste is shredded to less than 25mm, using two separate shredding machines. Ferrous material, iron and steel is extracted via an over-band magnet and stored in one tonne bags until sold.

Finally, after passing through an Eddy Current Separator for removing aluminium, leftover parts such as wires, circuit boards and small quantities of precious metals are stored in one tonne bags ready for smelting.

Established in 1993 initially as an engineering support company to the UK computer industry and today licensed by the Department of Environment, Midex offers a comprehensive range of affordable solutions to help organisations of all sizes meet their WEEE recycling commitment in the most environmentally-friendly and simplest way possible to ensure that computer waste is disposed properly.
